On my previous Mediatech session, my teacher-in-charge, Mr Lee, screened a movie called Rivers and Tides. The movie was more of a documentary than a story. It revolves around this artist who use nature to express his feelings about art. Mr Lee did not share with us his intention for showing us the movie; instead, he asked all of us at the end of the movie 'When was the last time you felt inspired?'
I had to admit that it had been a long time since I was inspired by something. The movie was indeed an inspiration for me. Well, in the beginning, the movie's flow was really slow and I felt rather bored watching the movie progressing so slowly. I was pretty puzzled by the movie because I could not identify the main plot. Mr Lee allowed us to take a little break first. When we returned, I gradually began to appreciate the movie. I recognised the artist from one of the lesson which I had in Sec 1. He used the rawest element in the world: the trees, the rocks and the other parts of nature to create his artwork. His patience created an art that was so pure that it was even hard to describe it. He felt that his creation was not an accomplishment, but a gift to nature. Even though he might fail some times, when the wind and waves were to strong, he accepted the way it was.
His appreciation of nature was what I admire most about him through this movie. Despite the lack of a storyline, the movie was so real that it became really impactful on the audience. This movie taught me to love and appreciate nature. We should always slow down and look out for the beauty which nature can bring us. That is how we should live and enjoy Life.
