Just the week before my March holiday,I had my annual camp at St. John's Island. It was a 3D2N Adventure Camp that was organised for us, newly HwaChongians, to get to know our fellow schoolmates better.
Of course, to start off, I will be talking about St. John Island. It is a peaceful litle island with little building. The sea is clear as crystal and the island is filled with natural air-conditioning. Our instructor, Deborah, guided us through the camp and developed us to be true Hwachong gentlemen. Though my memory of the first day was rather vague, I could still remember that we played some team-bonding games and the late night game of 'Kidnapped'. One memorable experience would be our meals. We would have to wait for everyone else to settle down before we could start eating. This is an unsual practice compared to our daily routine. That actually taught us to wait for others, not just care about oneself. I had a good rest on the first night.
Second day, we had a lot more activities. We had breakfast duties and after that we had our campfire preparation, which was very fun and full of laughter. We then had some more team-bonding games, which tested our brains and also our trust for each other. Just before lunch, we played multi-level captain's ball which was a 4-team captain's ball. I truly enjoyed that game as it was not just a captain's ball match but also a test of coordination and cooperation of the team. After lunch we had our Casualties Challenge. We were seriously not working as a team then and many misunderstanding occurred and we had lots to reflect aobut that. However, during our finale, our campfire, we came as a group and perform what we practised hard for. That was what this camp was all about, to be as a group, understand each other and work together. We were all tired at the end of the day, but I could not sleep well because of the lack of space in the tent when Joel spreaded his hand and legs out. Day 3 was mostly cleaning up and the Nasi Lemak at the end was the best!
All in all, I hope to thank the school for organising annual camp for us to get together and understand each other better. I will also like to thank Deborah for teaching us so much thoughout the camp. I am looking forward to next year's camp.
