During my March holiday, I attended an AEP workshop. It was a combined session with students from all the different AEP centres. Students from the five schools (HCI, NYGS, Victoria, Zhonghua and CHIJ St. Nicholas) were split into 10 groups with at least one student of each school in each group. We were tasked to create 2 costumes out of the provided materials that were based on a movie theme which would be randomly distributed to each group. My group was assigned on the movie ‘Avatar’. Tough one, indeed! We started brainstorming of ideas and then we split into two groups to work on the two sets of costume. My group consisted of Yusof & Xinyi(Zhonghua), James(Victoria), Amanda(CHIJ) and we were working on the native. The other team was working on the bird-like creature. We spent the whole morning doing up the head of the native. It was amazingly done and everyone was in awe by our performance. However, after lunch break, we had a lot of problems with the torso and we just could not figure out what to do. In the end, we had to rush through the whole thing. I, being the not so lucky one, had to wear the costume and it was very tiring. Through this workshop, we not only could see how well we were in art, but also a person’s personality. Like Yusof was a good leader, Amanda was gentle and meticulous and James was creative. I had learnt a lot about wearable art through this workshop and I had also made many friends. All in all, it was a tiring yet enjoyable experience for me.
